Everyone Needs a Friend Like IK Ogbonna
You see this man, Ik Ogbonna?
Whenever you see him, hug him if you can.
Pray for him.
Celebrate him.
Because men like him are rare.
I was at the funeral, and one thing kept catching my attention. Ik never sat down.
From beginning to the end, he was everywhere.
Making sure everything was on check.
Making sure everything was running smoothly.
Making sure his friend got the befitting farewell he deserved.
No noise.
No cameras.
No speeches.
Just loyalty.
Pure loyalty.
And I kept saying to myself, everybody needs an Ik Ogbonna in their life.
Not everybody can stand by you when life is sweet.
But it takes a different kind of person to stand by you when life becomes unbearable.
When Alex was going through his difficult moments and the internet was busy talking, judging, and creating different stories, Ik stayed calm.
He didn’t join the noise.
He didn’t seek attention.
He stood where a brother should stand.
When his friend passed away, he didn’t make everything about himself.
He didn’t come online looking for sympathy.
Instead, he quietly carried his pain.
He changed his DP.
He mourned his brother.
And then he showed up where it mattered most.
That is friendship.
That is brotherhood.
That is loyalty.
In a generation where friendship is often measured by posts, likes, and comments, Ik Ogbonna reminded us that true friendship is measured by presence.
By sacrifice.
By consistency.
By showing up.
The truth is, everybody prays for money.
Everybody prays for success.
But we should also pray for people.
Good people.
Loyal people.
People who will stand with us when the world becomes loud.
People who will protect our name when we are not there to defend ourselves.
People who will stand by our family when we can no longer do so ourselves.
May God bless Ik Ogbonna.
May God strengthen him.
May the loyalty he has shown others return to him a thousandfold.
May he never lack people who will stand for him the same way he stands for others.
Because a true brother is one of life’s greatest blessings.
And from what I saw, Ik Ogbonna is a true brother.
