Restaurant Review: Danfo Bistro, Ikoyi

Published

on

If you live in Lagos and you see that name the first thing you think about is chaos, disorder and crazy driving by bus drivers, drivers of the ubiquitous Danfo bus. It brings nostalgia to those who live outside Lagos when ever they see one especially if they had once lived in Lagos. So I was curious when I was invited to meet up a friend at Danfo Bistro on Alexander Road in Ikoyi.

We got there at a few minutes to ten pm and were hoping to get a late dinner. Apparently the kitchen closes at 10pm. But the waitress said she would convince the kitchen to make one last meal. I decided to order fish and yam chips to go and my friend ordered for a beer. He wanted a Small Guineas but was forced to drink Budweiser. There is obviously a conspiracy going on, this is the second time I’m going out in Lagos and the waiter is forcing a friend to drink a Budweiser. So I decided to find out what is going on and he confirmed to me that he is incentivized to convince people to drink Bud. I wonder what the other brands are doing while Budweiser is slowly making people change their brands.

I liked the ambiance there were a few people and I hear their claim to fame is Agoyin Beans and Bread. I will try it next time I go there, bread and Agoyin beans is actually a breakfast meal. I wonder if it will taste exactly as the one sold on the streets. The funny thing is that we went there because we both had a craving for a breakfast meal and the only place I know in Lagos you can eat all day breakfast is Orchid Bistro. Unfortunately they don’t open on Mondays.

If you like bohemian or eclectic then Danfo is your place. A must visit, but I shudder what would happen on a busy night, guests will have to park on the road. I think it’s a disservice to your guests if you do not think about parking. Especially on such a major road.
The waiters were friendly and professional and I would definitely visit again.

Look forward to my next post.
