See Photos: Riot At MOCPED In Affiliation With EKSU
Full-time Students of Ekiti State University affiliate programme in Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, situated at km.7 epe/ijebu-ode rd; noforija, epe, lagos started this complicated riot on monday, 17th of june, 2013 around 9:30a.m concerning the nonchalant attitude of the school management towards the students.
The school’s 2012/2013 first semester examinations was finally scheduled to commence on monday (17th of June) after previous postponement.
The provost of the college, Prof. Olu Akeusola said “ONLY those who have FULLY PAID their school fees would be allowed to seat for the examination.” The students didn’t agreed on this, so they have been pleading for over six weeks ago so that he would accept part-payment because they are still in the first semester of the session but the provost, alias “JAGABAN” and “OOSA” who is currently the Akogun of Epe land did not concur.
As scheduled, the first paper commenced and students who failed to meet up to the provost requirement caused scenes around the examination venues, chasing out those writing. During this process, the attention of policemen, OP MESA, navy officials were called by the school management to ensure safety of lives and peace in the college.
Despite the presence of the Nigeria Force, some students continued the violent act as a policeman shot thrice which one bullet took the life of a young innocent dude (a 200 level, integrated science student). Other policemen from Eredo Police station, Eredo LCDA, Epe shot tear-gas which affected over 70 students (still receiving treatment in General Hospital, Epe).
When the Security agencies left the college,(internal and external students) ruled the school violently, they destroyed buildings, vandalised properties and over 50 vehicles in the school. Some students went to the school poultry to steal livestocks. Also according to some lecturers, they were beaten, laptops and expensive gadgets were taken away from them.
As at 12:30.p.m, all activities was stopped. So, the school has been closed until further notice.
There was Curfew at night in some areas of the town concerning the issue.
