A dispatch rider with PM News was killed on Tuesday by a Toyota Sequoia at Oregun Bus Stop, Lagos State around 10am.

The rider, who was identified as Peter Isim, died on the spot after he was cut into two by the Sport Utility Vehicle with number plate Lagos AGL 882 AG.

The accident was said to have occurred as the driver of the SUV was hurrying to beat the traffic light.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the SUV manoeuvred to connect with another lane when he hit Isim who was on his power bike, heading for another direction.

Another eyewitness said the accident was compounded by a Lagos State PSP truck which was parked at the bus stop.

He said, “I was in a bus coming from Ojota when I suddenly heard a loud crash. The SUV hit the man on the bike from the back and flung him to the ground.

‘The driver was obviously confused because the SUV ran over him (Isim).”

He said the driver, on seeing the havoc he had created, tried to run away, but was apprehended by policemen and sympathisers at the scene.

“The PSP truck parked by the road apparently obstructed the view of the SUV driver when he was about to manoeuvre. But I was surprised that immediately the accident occurred, the truck was evacuated to stop people from linking it with the accident,” Owolabi said.

As the body of Isim was lying on the floor, a tall man, who introduced himself as Isim’s boss, arrived on the scene.

He said, “He was sleeping and was not supposed to come to the office when I called him and asked him to report for duty. I guess it was while he was also hurrying to come down that this unfortunate accident happened. I just don’t know what to say.’’
