A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that a son of late Chief Bola Ige, Muyiwa, is acting the script of some unnamed persons to tarnish his ( Omisore) image.

Omisore spoke through his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, at a press conference he addressed in Osogbo on Monday.

The governorship aspirant exonerated himself while reacting to interview granted by Muyiwa in Lagos on Sunday.

Muyiwa, who is the serving Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning in Osun State, had said that his father’s ghost would continue to haunt those who killed him.

Ige, who was the Attorney General of the Federation, was assassinated at his residence in Ibadan on December 23, 2001.

But Odeyemi said his principal knew nothing about the killing of Ige.

Explaining that the relationship between the deceased and his principal was cordial, Odeyemi said that Omisore was not involved in the killing in any way.

Odeyemi said, “It is unfortunate that Muyiwa who Otunba Omisore paid his fees is now being used to disparage him.

“Muyiwa is acting the conspiracy theory script handed over to him by some people. Is he doing this because of the position he is holding? The late Chief Bola Ige was a fearless man who stood for the truth at all times irrespective of who is affected.”

Responding, Muyiwa said, “A tiger needs not profess its tigeritude. Silence is, however, the best answer for their ilks.”

It will be recalled that Ige family had in February issued a statement on the eve of Omisore’s declaration of his intention to contest the governorship seat of the state that an aspirant wanted to parade a fictitious member of the family who would exonerate him from their father’s killing. The family did not mention anybody.

Aregbesola and some civil society groups had earlier in the year called on the Federal Government to revisit the trial of Ige murder suspects.

But Omisore who said that the governor was alluding to him urged him to provide new evidence which linked him with the killing.

The statement reads, “We make bold to say that Senator Dr. Iyiola Omisore who was persecuted for almost three and half years and made to suffer unjustly has reopened the case at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, seeking N2bn as damages for malicious prosecution.

“We therefore wish to advise Ogbeni Aregbesola that if he has new evidence, he should apply to be joined in this case so that the truth will unfold.

“It is disheartening that Aregbesola and his ilks have chosen to dance on Ige’s grave several years after his gruesome murder purely for political gain.

“When last was Aregbesola seen at Ige’s anniversary for genuine concern for the late politician?

“If there are fresh facts why didn’t they appeal the judgement on Ige’s murder over these years, why now that election timetable was released by INEC?”
